Powering the UK’s Circular Steel Future

Cardiff has a proud history of steelmaking stretching back over a century. The East Moors area, where our operations are based today, was once home to one of the largest integrated steelworks in Europe. Since the early 20th century, generations of skilled workers have produced steel here — forming the backbone of the UK’s industrial growth and infrastructure development.

At 7 Steel UK, we’re proud to continue this legacy with a future-focused approach that blends tradition with innovation. Utilising electric arc furnace (EAF) technology, our steelmaking process produces over 80% less carbon than traditional methods. From these same steelmaking grounds, we now lead the transition to a low-carbon, circular steel economy.

Tremorfa Site

Located to the northeast of Cardiff Bay, our Tremorfa site sits at the heart of Cardiff’s Eastern Industrial Zone, an area shaped by generations of heavy industry. The site houses our state-of-the-art Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) melt shop and sections mill, where we recycle UK-sourced scrap into billets and roll them into high-quality merchant bars, flats, channels, and angles. Adjacent to the main plant, we also manage a by-products storage facility and accommodate an asphalt plant operated by a third-party partner.

All billets produced in the melt shop are transported internally via a dedicated rail link that connects both rolling mills across our two sites.

Castle Works Site

Just a short distance from our Melt Shop, our Castle Works site is located near Cardiff Docks and Atlantic, equally steeped in steelmaking tradition. Strategically located within the historic East Moors steelworks area, Castle Works benefits from proximity to rail lines, port access, and Cardiff’s core logistics infrastructure.

This is where our rod and bar mill operate, capable of producing hundreds of thousands of tonnes annually. The mill delivers a wide range of products including reinforcing bar, high yield coil, and wire rod, used in critical infrastructure, construction, and manufacturing across the UK and Ireland. Castle Works is also home to our head office, which brings together all core support functions including finance, commercial, supply chain, HR, and sustainability.

We believe in sustainable development that provides prospect to our future generations

Certification

Every stage of our process meets rigorous British and European standards. We are certified to BES6001 and Eco-Reinforcement for responsible sourcing, and our rolled products are covered by verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
