7 Steel UK Sites
Cardiff has a proud history of steelmaking stretching back over a century.
The East Moors area, where our operations are based today, was once home to one of the largest integrated steelworks in Europe.
Since the early 20th century, generations of skilled workers have produced steel here — forming the backbone of the UK’s industrial growth and infrastructure development.
Tremorfa Site
Located in Cardiff’s Eastern Industrial Zone, our Tremorfa site is home to 7 Steel UK’s main manufacturing operations. Here, UK-sourced scrap steel is melted in our Electric Arc Furnace and rolled into merchant bars, flats, channels, and angles for use across UK construction and infrastructure projects.
The site combines decades of steelmaking heritage with modern, low carbon production methods. Alongside the EAF melt shop and sections mill, Tremorfa also includes a by-products storage facility and accommodate an asphalt plant operated by a third-party partner.
All billets produced at Tremorfa are transported via a dedicated internal rail link to our Castle Works rolling mill, reducing road transport and emissions while maintaining a seamless production process.
Tremorfa is a key part of our closed-loop manufacturing model, converting recycled scrap into new steel products efficiently and responsibly.
Castle Works Site
Just a short distance from Tremorfa, our Castle Works site sits near Cardiff Docks and Atlantic, within the historic East Moors steelworks area. Its strategic location offers easy access to rail lines, the port, and Cardiff’s core logistics network, supporting efficient movement of materials and finished products.
Castle Works houses our rod and bar mill, capable of producing hundreds of thousands of tonnes annually. The mill manufactures a wide range of steel products including reinforcing bar, high-yield coil, and wire rod, which are used in critical infrastructure, construction, and manufacturing projects across the UK and Ireland.
The site also accommodates our head office, centralising core support functions including finance, commercial operations, supply chain management, HR, and sustainability. By integrating these functions with on-site production, Castle Works ensures consistent quality, traceability, and operational efficiency across 7 Steel UK’s circular steel manufacturing process.
