Shaping extremely heated steel

7 Steel UK has earned Supplier of the Year status for delivering an innovative prefabrication solution on the HS2 Green Tunnels project, recognising the scale, consistency and quality of work on one of the UK’s largest infrastructure programmes.

This award reflects reflects the value of 7 Steel UK’s prefabrication expertise, alongside the successful delivery of over 50,000 tonnes of cut and bent reinforcement steel to a highly complex and demanding project environment. The project also evolved to include a fully prefabricated invert slab reinforcement solution across multiple HS2 tunnels and portals.

The innovative solution was developed in response to significant programme pressure and challenging site conditions – from confined low-headroom tunnel environments through to complex installation constraints across more than 10km of tunnel invert slab construction.

Delivering through innovation

7 Steel’s approach to the task resulted in more than £10 million of savings across the project, as well as reducing programme timelines by as mych as 18 months. 7 Steel also introduced several innovative reinforcement solutions across the project, including the use of hot forged headed anchors.

As a result of the project’s success, a repeatable and scaleable prefabrication methodology is now being applied to additional bridge and tunnel schemes.

Reinforcing 7 Steel UK’s role as a trusted technical partner on complex infrastructure projects, the Supplier of the Year award regonises the collaboration, technical expertise, and determination of teams whose work transformed a traditional reinforcement package into a flagship engineering solution for HS2.
